The 2024 Dank Bulls Elk Hunt

The Hunt: Chasing Ghosts in the Rockies

The journey began with all the excitement, nervous energy, and gear a group of first- and second-year hunters can muster. We knew the odds were slim—we were out there on public land, with thousands of acres to cover, constantly watching for signs. We set our sights on bull elk, but the wilderness had other plans.

The Dank Bulls came across plenty of action. Elk sightings weren’t rare. We saw them, watched them, even scoped them. But with each encounter, the question was distance: close, but not close enough. Each of us had a moment of truth, with an elk in our sights and our hearts racing, but no one took a shot, keeping conservation and safety first.

The Other Wildlife Encounters

The thrill of spotting a bull was heightened by the other wildlife that crossed our paths. From wild turkeys to mule deer and a whole lot of cow elk, the landscape was alive. We may not have left with a bull elk, but the moments spent watching these other animals in their natural habitat added a rich layer to our time in the backcountry.

Why We’re Calling It a Win

Sure, tag soup was on the menu, but here’s the thing: our hunt wasn’t defined by what we brought home. This season gave us something just as meaningful—experience, camaraderie, and a renewed fire for next year. Elk hunting is as much about respecting the wilderness and building skills as it is about taking an animal.

As first- and second-year hunters, we each learned valuable lessons. Next year, we’ll know the terrain better, understand elk behavior a little more, and have the patience that only comes from close encounters. We’ll be back out there, chasing elk on public land, but with a sharper edge and more stories to share.

Looking Ahead

For now, the Dank Bulls are back to training, strategizing, and refining our gear for the next round. If this year taught us anything, it’s that the mountains don’t give up their prizes easily. We’re already looking forward to the next hunt and hoping for the day that our tag soup turns into a feast.

So, here’s to the Dank Bulls and a 2025 hunt where we’ll have more than just stories to bring back from the mountains. Until then, we’ll wear our tag soup with pride.

Dank Bulls: The Wild Hunt Begins in GMU 511

Scouting

Scouting GMU 511 is all about finding those hidden pockets where the elk might be hiding. With maps in hand and boots on the ground, we’re covering miles of rugged terrain, searching for fresh tracks, signs of movement, and the perfect spots to stake our claim. It’s a game of strategy, and we’re determined to outsmart both the elk and the hunting pressure.

Camping

The adventure doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Dank Bulls camping is where stories are shared, gear is prepped, and the fire crackles under the Colorado night sky. Whether we’re in a tent or out of a truck bed, it’s all about the camaraderie. The wilderness might be tough, but we’ve got a basecamp full of laughs, good food, and maybe a few cold drinks to keep us going.

Hunting

This is what it all comes down to—the hunt. Armed with our rifles, ammo, and plenty of determination, the Dank Bulls are here to test our skills and endurance. In the challenging landscape of GMU 511, every step could bring us closer to that perfect shot. Whether it’s stalking through the timber or waiting in a quiet clearing, we’re always ready to seize the moment and take our shot at that elusive elk.
